Effort and money were given to build great worship places to a false god named Baal. (Child abuse and abortion is rampant today also).ģ. They filled the garbage dump of Jerusalem with the innocent bodies of children and aborted babies that were killed in worship of the god Baal. (Similarly, the people in the last days give heed to other things more than the true God).Ģ. The religious people of that day had burned incense to strange gods. The reasons for God's great insult to the people in this way is the fact that:ġ. When one wanted to show how much a person or a person’s actions were detested, a bottle was to be smashed near to the person. Jeremiah was to take the earthen bottle and break it in the sight of the people. The city was to be totally destroyed, the people were to be slaughtered. Because the people had forsaken and rejected God, God had Jeremiah announce that He was going to reject and forsake them. Standing there he was to proclaim the sins of the people in vivid detail. He is to take it to the gate near the valley where the trash and dead bodies of the poor were put to be burnt. Jeremiah is told by God to get an earthen bottle. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. The spiritual brokenness will bring physical ailments also that will need healing.ġ Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter's earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests Ģ And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,ģ And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.Ĥ Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents ĥ They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:ġ0 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,ġ1 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.ġ Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things.Ģ Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.Ĩ For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.ĩ Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. Going contrary to the laws of God will break people, and broken people will need spiritual healing.

They try to rationalize reasons to justify their deeds, their words, their thoughts, but if God said they were not right, there was a reason. There are many broken people today, ailing from their attempt to break God’s laws. If we think we will break them, we will find that instead, they break us. ‘We do not break God’s laws, they break us.’ This is true, for God’s laws are eternal rhema of God, uncrushable words that will always be true and strong.
